Young Thug heeft wel eens in het verleden een gekke fotoshoot gedaan met een Gucci jurk aan, en geeft toe dat hij wel vaker vrouwenkleding draagt. In een interview met GQ legt hij uit waarom. Zo zegt Thug dat vrouwenkleding strakker gedragen wordt en dat vindt hij fijner zitten en beter uitzien:
“Because women’s clothes are [slimmer] than men’s clothes. The jeans I got on right now, they’re women’s jeans. But they fit how they’re supposed to fit. Like a rock star.” Hij zegt dat 90% van zijn kledingkast uit vrouwenkleding bestaat:
“The only thing I probably have in men’s is like briefs. T-shirts. Ninety percent of my clothes are women’s.” Thug krijgt nogal wat kritiek op zijn controversiële stijl en er waren geruchten dat hij homo zou zijn. Dat ontkent hij stellig en zijn styliste Joanna “JoJo” Zarur meent dat hij juist zo is omdat hij niets om andermans mening geeft en anders wil zijn, een trendsetter:
“Sometimes he’ll do stuff on purpose that he knows will piss people off,” “If people start talking sh*t about his nails being red, he’ll put crystals on the nails.
Talk about his jeans, he’s like, ‘I want tighter jeans.’ He goes out of his way to make a sure people know he doesn’t care. He finds it funny cause at the end of the day, he’s setting a trend. He’ll look at Instagram and read the hater comments and laugh, and show his friends. He’s the perfect person for what he’s doing. I could not see anyone else doing it better, honestly.”
